Retired FEHB and Medicare Part B: When to Enroll to Avoid a Penalty

Retired FEHB coverage is not active employer coverage for the Part B SEP. If you retired before 65, enroll in Part B during your IEP. If you retired at or after 65, your 8-month SEP opened at retirement — use it before it closes.
